ONO

ZINE

All in all, there were over 40 issues on W.H.O.L. and Onozine.  I started WHOL in 1992 when I found some scratch off letters at a garage sale and thought..."hmmm, what can I do with these?" and that's where it all started.  The full issues will eventually be loaded into OnozineThePage on Facebook.

The first 6 issues: were bands that were elementally inspiring for me.  Circa 1992, I didn't have a computer so I had to cut and paste from a word processor make copies.

Issue #7 The Big Mele

The issues I did in Hawaii were totally sketch.  I was living in hostels, only had access to a computer on occasion, didn't have any money, but fuck man, it was a blast.

Circa 1995, The Big Mele was a huge show in Honolulu at Kualoa Ranch.  I had tickets from Epitaph but lived on the Big Island at the time so I had to convince the local radio station to fly me over, pick me up, get me to the show and find a place for me to stay.  The folks at The Wave and Radio Free Hawaii were great. I was pretty shit faced so there is not much to read in this one. OOPsie!

Issue #8 The Dungeon

The Dungeon was an S&M Rave.  There were live sex shows, piercings on site, whippings, and a great DJ.  I wore a dress that was only cellophane plastic wrap.  It was really hard to get in and out of the taxi with that get up on. Inside, it was so hot that I sweated about an inch off my butt.   I wore something similar when I worked the beer tub at a MC 900 FT. Jesus show back in the states years later.

Issue #9 Tattoos

I was really trying hard to find my way in Honolulu.  Fortunately, one of the gals that lived in the hostel with me was a stripper and already knew a bunch of people in town.  We got to know a pretty good group of tattoo artists, the piercing guy, most of the local musicians, and a LOT of peelers (strippers).

Issue #10 311

This was a show at The After Dark in Honolulu.  No Doubt opened for them in 1995.  They were the first band to agree to pose for my signature photo which is the band in a handstand.  SA opted Martinez opted out (don't blame him).  The show was amazing and the guys were great after the show.  We got a great interview with them.

Issue #13 The Darkhorse Issue

We saw Reel Big Fish a bunch over the years, twice in Honolulu.  This issue spoke to the bands that no one has heard of yet and the dedication of Radio Free Hawaii to change that.

Issue #14 Reel Big Fish

Back on the mainland for these next issues.  I still didn't have a great computer system set up so I was using a word processor and cutting and pasting up the words.  You can see in the issues, where my tape lines were.  It took a while to grow it in to the zine it is today.
